Activist Student Film

Activist Student Film

(auto-translated from Dutch)

A young student forced to live with her alcoholic dad seeks recognition and aspires independence. When a friend introduces her to an inspiring group of squatters/activists, she realizes that being obedient to the system isn’t going to save her. As her new friends face eviction, she decides to step away from her innocent character to help them by assisting in, what will be, her first squat.
As you might be able to tell, it's a very activistic/ideology based narrative, but secretly all films are right? I wrote the script myself based on my experiences in the activist scene in and around Amsterdam. This makes it a very personal project which im very passionate about, with the ambitions to expand the project in the future.

What do we offer?
Within the crew we are all friends and we like to approach actors with that same energy. Not only because that way we have the most fun on set, but also because it can be useful for everyone to build up a network of filmmakers with different abilities, skills and contributions. If we really get along in a creative and professional manner, most likely we will provide each other with other opportunities in the future.

Description
To be casted roles:
- Max (protagonist 18-21 Years old)
Max is the student in question, she is quite the “normal / girl-next-door” type of character who lives with her alcoholic father in a small 2 bedroom apartment. As you might imagine, she feels neglected at times, as is she needs some sort of belonging. At the start of the story she is not into activism/squatting at all. When she meets Princess and Alex at a bar, they take her to a party at their squatted house. Throughout the actions and conversations with Princess and Alex, She gets in touch with this whole new culture and lifestyle. As the story proceeds, Max realizes that she needs to take more radical measures to overcome her daily struggles. Ultimately she decides to do help Princess and Alex with their upcoming squatting action.

- Sofia (Best friend, 19 - 22 Years old)
Sofia is Max’ best friend from high school, she clearly plays a supporting role in her life. Sofia usually knows what Max needs when she’s struggling, or in need. She also is the common friend through which Max meets Princess & Alex. Max trusts Sofia, even though they have two very different personality’s Sofia always manages to find a way to cheer her up.

- Princess (Squatter, 20 - 25 Years old)
Princess is a more experienced activist/squatter who is Sofia’s friend from university. His attitude is gentlemanlike and nonchalant in a streetwise sort of way, he likes to kick against the system. There will be some paint on his clothing (graffiti), wears torn down but good looking sneakers.Throughout the story he introduces Max to all sorts of rituals and doings within his scene and/or collective. He really seems to understand that Max is in need of some belonging, which he can provide by making her feel welcome in this, for Max, new world. When it becomes clear that Alex and Princess need to do another squat, he suggests that Max should help out and get a room for herself.

- Alex (Squatter, 20 - 25 Years old)
Alex is Sofia’s other friend from university, they live with Princess in the same squat. Since they are a more quiet kind of person, Alex has a more supporting role in de beginning. But towards the end of the story they get more involved with organizing and performing the new squat. Alex is a very ideological squatter, they really do it to take a passionate political stance. Therefore, Alex will look a bit more like the “stereotypical antifa anarchist”, with inspirations from punk styles. They will, for example, use a keffiyeh to cover their face during the action.

- Dad (Alcoholic, early 40s)
Dad is just an alcoholic, although he only makes one appearance, he causes Max’ to be pissed off in the first place. He is also the reason Max is drastically looking for her on place to live. More importantly, his sad being motivates Max to be different then het father, and take action instead of waiting for someone to come save them.
