For our school project we are making a 5 minute short film. A short explanation of our film:
On a gloomy afternoon, a chess tournament takes place at a local theatre hall. Thomas, a 22-year-old male, arrives to not just compete against, but confront his past lover, Elizabeth, with a wish to reconcile their relationship. Elizabeth, a 21-year-old female, enters the chess tournament, spots Thomas but does not seem to be moved by his sudden reappearance in her life.

Their first encounter after a breakup leads to a chess board – their love battlefield. As the game starts, emotions run high as each chess figurine move represents unresolved past arguments suddenly resurfacing. Each move, each figurine – a representation of both past lovers' inner worlds.

As the game goes, each move introduces the nature of Thomas's and Elizabeth's fallen relationship – who is more impulsive, who is more in control, who yearns for love, who wishes to leave. Eventually, the chess game represents Thomas's nature to demand rather than listen, making every battle step a missed chance to rekindle the relationship.

As Elizabeth's queen finally destroys Thomas's king, Thomas is finally forced to confront the long-overdue issues he faced not only throughout his relationship, but also, within himself.

The intimate portrayal of both argumentative sides of the chess game represents more than what's on the board surface. The sacrifices and fights that need to be made willingly to keep a relationship afloat. As the game ends, Thomas is faced with the consequences of his avoidance and gets left by his queen, Elizabeth.
