An adopted girl grows up in affluent Amsterdam South and tries to find her place at grammar school. Although she adapts effortlessly to her surroundings, an invisible distance always remains between her and the rest. Her identity seems to be something others do have an image of, but to which she herself feels no access.
When her parents give her a gift as an ode to her heritage, everything changes. As soon as she wears the ring, a mysterious creature begins to appear everywhere. Sometimes it seems to observe her, sometimes to lead her somewhere.
The ring slowly draws her into a hidden world: a vibrant subculture of young people of color, full of rituals, style, music, and a shared sense of history. What begins as alienation and confusion grows into a quest for identity, belonging, and the question of whether heritage is something you choose, inherit, or finally dare to embrace.
