At Submarine, we conceive and produce ambitious international animation, documentary, and live-action films and series. For streamers like Amazon Prime and Netflix, as well as for Dutch and international broadcasters such as VPRO, AVROTROS, ZDF, ARTE, and Channel 4. Submarine is one of the largest film producers in the Netherlands and is based in Amsterdam. Our talented and renowned filmmakers explore the boundaries of the moving image. Our productions often premiere at major international film festivals and win important awards, including the International Emmy Awards, the Prix Europa, the NHK Japan Prize, the Peabody Award, and the SXSW Interactive Award. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are currently looking for a proactive internship candidate!

Currently, several new projects are in development and production. Therefore, we are looking for a research and production intern to join the team for a period of at least 5 months.

Job requirements / profile
We are looking for an intern who has broad interests, an affinity for documentaries, strong communication skills, is driven, and enjoys getting things done. You must be able to think creatively and solution-oriented, be stress-resistant, flexible, and proactive, and dare to take initiative. Experience with journalism and/or media studies is a plus. A good command of English and Dutch is also important.

Education: Higher Professional Education (HBO) or University Education (WO)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Documentary – Research and Production Internship
As a research and production intern, you will assume the role of production assistant, among others. This is the perfect opportunity to gain extensive experience on a variety of documentary projects. Additionally, you will be involved in all kinds of activities involved in the development phase of film production. For example, you will assist with research for documentaries in development, contribute ideas for potential new plans, and help with grant applications. Alongside these activities, you will also support ongoing productions by, among other things, helping to prepare for shooting days.

The work is varied and includes, among other things, the following tasks:
• Support with grant applications
• Assist with preparations for shooting days and post-production
• Support with the development of new documentary plans
• Production support
• Research activities
• Applications at film festivals

It is a hands-on internship where you learn everything about making a documentary, with room for your own initiatives and goals. You will truly become part of our production team! With the help of your internship supervisor, you will set your own learning goals for your personal and professional development. This way, you get the most out of your experience at Submarine.
